Dental Scale And Clean: The Professional Cleaning For Your Teeth

A dental scale and clean, also called professional teeth cleaning, is a preventive dentistry service which aims to remove all plaque and tartar deposits in the mouth. The process is quick and non-invasive, recommended for everyone particularly those suffering from early stage gum disease.

Negative Effects Of Calculus/ Tartar

The food we eat can leave food residue in the mouth which rots to become plaque. Plaque is a soft, sticky film that contains millions of bacteria and gathers and sticks around your teeth.

Timely and proper brushing of teeth removes most of the plaque in your mouth. However, poor dental hygiene causes the plaque to harden and become tartar or calculus.

Brushing cannot remove tartar or calculus. Only your dentist, by performing a professional cleaning, can remove these deposits in your teeth.

Left unattended, tartar or calculus can lead to dental threats such as:

Benefits of Dental Scale and Clean

1 Stops possible dental issues

By removing all plaque in the mouth, possible dental threats such as those mentioned are halted.

2 Keeps your teeth healthy and strong

With your mouth free of plaque, bacteria cannot attack your teeth’s enamel, therefore, stopping decay and keeping your teeth strong and healthy.

3 Brighter smile

Plaque also stains the teeth. With a dental scale and clean, the stains are removed revealing a brighter smile.

4 Fresher breath

Tartar contains bacteria that produce a foul scent. When it is removed you are left with fresher breath.

5 Boosts your confidence.

Your confidence is directly proportional to your oral health. Good oral health means you are more confident to speak and face different people everyday.

The Dental Scale And Clean Procedure

In a dental scale and clean, your dentist uses an ultrasonic instrument to knock the tartar deposits off your teeth. This handpiece sprays water to flush the debris away.

After the bigger tartar deposits are removed, fine hand tools are used to scrape off the remaining smaller tartar deposits. After all the plaque is removed, your teeth’s surfaces are smoothened and polished to make it difficult for tartar to build up again.

With the tartar removed and your mouth clean, your gums can slowly reattach themselves back into place.

How Often Is A Dental Scale And Clean?

Regular dental scale and clean is recommended every six months. However, its frequency may be changed by your dentist depending on your teeth’s status.
